Minnesota boasts some of the worst racial disparities in the country when it comes to jobs, homeownership, and education, and we need policy solutions that respond to this reality. As the face of our state changes and grows, the Organizing Apprenticeship Project (OAP) is a unifying voice calling for equitable state policies that will strengthen Communities of Color, American Indian Communities, and the entire state of Minnesota. Last week, OAP released its Racial Equity Bill Watch: Minnesota Voices Building a Path Towards Justice. Check it out and look for the exciting legislative proposals that we are working on hand-in-hand with our allies (foreclosure prevention, freedom to marry, safe schools, gun violence prevention, and immigrant rights), as well as proposals on the table that conflict with our progressive values and goals. Next year, when the legislative session begins, OAP will release "report cards" for our legislators, and detail how they voted on these bills in 2013. Visit the Voices for Racial Justice blog for more information, and remember to join us at the Capitol next year to help OAP deliver these report cards!
