Join us on Wednesday, February 27 at the Capitol for a hearing and press conference that will advance the Homeowner Bill of Rights in the state legislature, and help us prevent unnecessary foreclosures in our community.
NOTE: THIS HEARING HAS BEEN MOVED TO 7 PM
7 PM Hearing: The Homeowner Bill of Rights will be heard for the first time in the House Civil Law Committee. We must have a strong showing at this hearing, so that our legislators know that the bill is supported by a diverse and powerful coalition.
State Office Building, room 200
100 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd.
St. Paul, MN 55155
12-1 PM Press Conference & Action: Our coalition will release a report on the economic impact of the Minnesota foreclosure crisis. After the press conference, we will walk with clergy and families affected by foreclosure to deliver these reports with letters, stories, and photos to key legislators. As people of faith, we can put a human face to the foreclosure crisis that continues to challenge families, neighborhoods, congregations, and communities across the state. *Please bring stories and photos of your family, home, and foreclosed properties in your neighborhood to include in a powerful art-in-action display by Arts Responding to Foreclosure.

Background on the Bill:
Jewish Community Action has long worked on foreclosure prevention, and more recently, has worked to pass a Homeowner Bill of Rights in Minnesota, much like a similar bill in California that cut foreclosures by 40%. Last week, the landmark and common sense legislation, which would end dual tracking, develop mandatory mediation for those facing foreclosure, and more, advanced out of its first committee in the Minnesota State House, indicating that we have a real chance of passing it this legislative session. These next few weeks will be absolutely critical, as the legislation works its way through additional committees in the House and Senate. To see this bill through, we must continue to grow a powerful coalition that includes Minnesotans for a Fair Economy, ISAIAH, and JCA supporters like you.
