VOICE Community Organizing/Programming
Intern
Majors: Russian/Slavic studies/language, Jewish studies, Holocaust
studies, intercultural communication, nonprofit leadership, sociology,
social work, geriatric studies, communication, organizational
communication, history, other majors or career interests considered.
Hours: 4-5 hrs/week, schedule flexible
Supervisor: VOICE Community Organizer/Programmer
Summary: VOICE is a joint initiative of Jewish Community Action, Sabes
Jewish Community Center, and Minneapolis Jewish Federation. VOICE works
with Russian-speaking, older adult, Jewish immigrants in Minneapolis, to
help them build community, identify community needs and solve problems,
connect with senior services and with the organized Jewish community,
and develop leadership.
This VOICE Intern is responsible for fostering leadership and social
change within this Russian-speaking, older adult, Jewish, immigrant
community; assisting with the community building process; helping
community members identify issues important to them; creating and
distributing marketing materials for VOICE; assisting with events
planning by making follow-up calls, confirming information for the
events, signing invitations, birthday cards, and assisting in event
preparation. The VOICE Intern is also responsible for assisting with
leadership team meetings, agenda preparation, and development of
leadership profiles.
Likely Duties:
Help foster leadership and social change within the Russian-speaking,
older adult, Jewish, immigrant community.
Assist with the community building process.
Help members of the community identify issues that are important to
them.
Create events fliers with Microsoft Publisher.
Create events newsletter.
Distribute marketing materials.
Assist with events planning.
Update residents personal profiles in Excel.
Sing invitations and birthday cards.
Prepare and distribute meeting agendas.
Schedule and confirm events.
Assist in event preparation.
Assist with leadership team meetings.
Contribute to development of leadership profiles.
Create tools to evaluate events.
Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least 18 years old.
Fluent in English (Russian language preferred but not required).
Basic understanding of Eastern-European culture.
Comfortable working with older adults.
Sensitive to cultural differences.
Interested in leadership development and social change.
Self-motivated to give direction and perform duties.
Competence with Microsoft Office.
Excellent organizational skills.
Detail-oriented.
Excellent interpersonal skills.

VOLUNTEERS AND VIDEO CAMERA NEEDED
JCA is involved with a
documentary on World War II veterans and Holocaust witnesses from the former Soviet Union. The videographer
is a professional who is volunteering his time for this project, and he
needs a skilled videographer to help him
complete the documentary.
We also welcome volunteers.
We have particular needs for Russian speakers, educators, interviewers,
artists and performers.
