Yesterday police officers in Kenosha, WI shot Jacob Blake, a Black man, seven times in the back, in front of his children.
Jacob is still alive — baruch hashem — and in serious condition at a local hospital. We join together to offer a prayer of healing, a mi sheberach, with the hope that physical wounds may be mended.
This is not the first time police have shot a Black man in broad daylight. This is not the first time it has been captured on video for America to watch. And it will not be the last, until we undo the systems of white supremacy that causes violent harm to BIPOC communities, over and over again.
True healing requires transformation. Our most powerful prayers are actions that bring the transformation into being.
At JCA, we believe that this transformation starts with honest and challenging conversations about public safety and policing within our communities. If you would like to be a part of those discussions, click here.
