Like many of you, I was shocked and dismayed to see snow this morning. I was not ready.

But the early arrival of winter precipitation reminded my of this famous quote from Rabbi Tarfon from Pirkei Avot (2:16):

הוּא הָיָה אוֹמֵר, לֹא עָלֶיךָ הַמְּלָאכָה לִגְמֹר, וְלֹא אַתָּה בֶן חוֹרִין לִבָּטֵל מִמֶּנָּה

"It is not upon you to finish the work, but you are not free to hold back from it."

We are not holding back. Even in the snow, even in the hail, even in times of crisis. Today JCA members were out at VEAP Food Bank in Bloomington talking to voters and making sure everyone had a plan to get their ballot in on time.

Sure it was a little chilly. But tikkun olam, like voting, isn’t a weather dependent activity. It’s an obligation, no matter what. We’re Jews and Minnesotans and we have work to do.

Join us in that work by signing up for a voter engagement shift or by becoming a member of JCA with a donation of any amount today.
