We want to share A New Story of Safety, an essay published last week in Pollen Midwest, written by our Executive Director, Carin Mrotz.

The piece is a powerful reflection the dominant narratives on public safety in the Jewish community, the ones that are often repeated in times where our communities feel threatened.

Carin lays out how these familiar stories, played on a loop in throughout our community, don't lead to outcomes that make us – and Black and Jews of Color especially – safer.

In a time where our communities are grappling with that very question – and for whom – this article will help you think critically and more imaginatively about how our community can truly seek safety for all.

At JCA we are committed to creating space for community conversations on safety, places for us to tell new stories about our communities and how we can keep ourselves safe.

As Carin writes: "I see a better future, and I want us in it"

We highly suggest you take a few minutes read the full article, not only because it's timely and good, but also because it features gorgeous illustrations by Font Love Studio aka JCA member and former board member Elana Schwartzman, who made these words come to life.
