Happy Hannukah from all of us at Jewish Community Action.

As we get our dreidels and hannukiout ready, we are thinking about how the story of this festival is all about the unlikely happening. A small group defeats a more powerful foe. The oil lasts for eight days. They tried to kill us, we survived, now we eat (a lot).

The Maccabees, the menorah lighters, and the survivors of persecution all sought a world that seemed outside the realm of possibility. But their conviction, their flame, persisted until, suddenly, what they dreamed became a reality.

Right now, many are trying to convince us that a better world isn't possible. That we can't fund our communities to keep them safe during a pandemic. That we can't house all our neighbors. That racism and economic inequality are just the way things are.

We cannot let their cynicism fuel resignation. Things have not always been this way. We know that even the most unlikely possibility can happen when we come together.

We know the light of the Hannukah candles, lit during the darkest time of the year, will eventually bloom into a summer sun.

Let's light the shamash together. Join us for Together Towards Justice, our annual meeting, to find out how you can get involved in our justice campaigns in 2022.
