Join JCA to go door-to-door and have meaningful conversations with voters about housing and criminal justice issues.
Affordable housing and decriminalizing communities are intersectional. There is no stronger evidence of this than the so-called "crime free/drug free ordinance" in St. Louis Park: an ordinance that is responsible for evicting hundreds of renters purely on suspicion of criminal activity and without due process (read more about the ordinance here: http://www.startribune.com/st-louis-park-s-evicted-before-convicted-hous...).
That's why JCA is working in partnership with community members of St. Louis Park and other affordable housing and criminal-justice reform groups in hopes of changing the minds and hearts of renters and their neighbors through Deep Canvassing.
Deep Canvassing will bring us into real conversations and deep listening that move past the headlines. We know that when we listen to someone else’s experience and share ours, we have a better chance of overcoming political divisions, forging connections, and creating the changes we want to see.
Do you have experience canvassing? Amazing! Is this your first time canvassing? Also amazing! The first half of the day will be geared towards deep canvassing specific training and collectively getting on the same page.
***coffee, lunch, and snacks will be provided***
The first half of the day, at the Sabes JCC, will have space for sitting and standing. The space is ADA accessible. Canvassing will be 2.5 hours, and we are welcome to take breaks in cars as needed. Unfortunately, many homes will have stairs leading up to them. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for accessibility questions.
