The Tzedek Institute is Jewish Community Action’s initiative to train, develop, and support strong innovative Jewish social justice and community leaders. We lead with Jewish values and place them at the center of what we do. It will include intensive, high quality training for existing and emerging leaders in the community, and participants will use their knowledge, resources, and skills to help strengthen their personal and professional lives, while making meaningful contributions to social justice efforts in Minnesota.

Tzedek Institute is an 8-week training program designed to develop leaders for social change, within the Jewish community, and to work with and alongside other communities. Through interactive workshops, hands on experiences, and peer relationships, cohort participants learn the skills to equip themselves to take greater leadership within the community, their workplace, and other areas of their lives. As well, participants will create a network of supportive community members to help achieve their goals. The TI emphasizes a framework that highlights the intersectionality of issues in our community, that we feel, we all have a place and a role in working on.

As Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel said; “The true standard by which to gauge a culture is the extent to which reverence, compassion, and justice are to be found in the daily lives of a whole people, not only in the acts of isolated individuals.” Through developing deep relationships, new skills, and a better understanding of our community and the world around us, participants will finish the program as stronger leaders in the Jewish community, and can apply aspects of the trainings throughout their lives.

Details: The TI opens with an overnight shabbaton retreat, followed by 6 three hour sessions, and concludes with a celebratory gathering for Havdalah. We welcome people of all levels of Jewish observation, and encourage members of the community who want to expand their leadership skills and understanding of what is happening in the community around us.

During the Tzedek Institute, Cohort members will: -Access and learn from a dynamic network of leaders, organizers, rabbis and scholars and Jewish Community Action staff trainers -Develop organizing and leadership skills in a Jewish context -Expand their knowledge of what Jewish texts, traditions, and histories have to say about putting values into action. -Build transformational relationships with each other, creating a community of change makers. -Create powerful and meaningful connections, bringing ideas, people and community issues together.
