Tikkun Leil Shavuot

  • Shir Tikvah 1360 West Minnehaha Parkway Minneapolis, MN, 55419 United States (map)

In hard times throughout history, Jews have turned to Torah study as a tool to imagine other worlds and dream towards liberatory futures.

Shavuot connects us not just to the moment that God gave Torah to Israel but to all the generations that have sought this radical practice of imagination and hope.

For the second year running, we invite you to join into a long night of communal dreaming, learning, song, and ritual.

Our teachers will help us to consider:

  • What is the olam ha-ba (world-to-come) that we need to imagine during this time of revelation?  And how does it help us connect with a more just/whole olam ha-zeh (this world)?

  • What hopes and challenges arise in this imagining?

  • How do Jewish traditions, practices, melodies… that shape the worlds we dream of building?

Weather permitting, our holiday will end with a sunrise Torah parade to Lake Harriet and a prayer service at the Lake.  Between learning and song, we’ll snack on cheese cake and dance away sleep.

The Tikkun is sponsored by a wide range of Twin Cities-based Jewish communities and organizations that seek to build space at the intersection of spirituality and justice.  In a year that has seen such terrible violence in Israel and Palestine and so much divisive in the Jewish world, we come together with the hope that through our communal learning, we can embody/compose/imagine healing and hope for our communities.

Come for one session, or come all night.  Learning sessions will occur both on zoom and in person.  All are welcome.  Masks are recommended for our in person learning.
