We’re teaming up to fight for abortion access
I'm sure you've heard the news: last night Politico published a leaked draft Supreme Court majority opinion that would explicitly overturn Roe v. Wade.
This ruling is dangerous and unprecedented, and will end federal constitutional protections for abortion, and open the floodgates for states to impinge on individuals' fundamental right to control their own body.
We are devastated, we are furious, and we will fight back.
Abortion rights are also inherent within Jewish values. As Rabbi Avi Olitzky and and JCA Executive Director Beth Gendler wrote in TCJewfolk, in Judaism, terminating a pregnancy is not only permissible but at times required. Limiting the right to abortion would limit our right to practice our religion.
It will also disproportionately impact communities who already experience barriers to health care, like those with low incomes, who are disproportionately Black, Latino, Indigenous, and other communities of color.
We cannot and will not stand for it.
That is why Jewish Community Action is joining UnRestrict MN, a coalition committed to removing the many restrictions on abortion access in our state. Our partners at NCJW-MN have long been leaders in this fight, and we look forward working together as a strong, Jewish voice for abortion rights.
Together, we will win abortion access that is free from hurdles, not challenged continuously in court or punished criminally, fully available regardless of zip code, income level, or insurance coverage, and free from shame and stigma.
